What it is good at

  • Bowls lift out for washing, and stainless does not hold on to smells.
  • The stand keeps the head above the floor line for a tall dog.
  • A wide base resists a dog who noses the bowl across the room.

Check before you buy

  • Bowl rim height against the dog standing relaxed: too low wastes the point, too high is awkward.
  • Whether replacement bowls in the same diameter are sold separately.
  • Weight and footprint on a hard floor, and whether the feet have rubber.

Who it is not for

Small dogs and cats who eat from the floor comfortably, and kitchens without the floor space for a stand.

A raised feeder is a height decision. With the dog standing relaxed, the bowl rim should sit somewhere around the lower chest, so the neck stays roughly level with the back while the dog eats.

Two details decide whether the stand is a fixture or a nuisance. The first is weight: a light stand slides across a tiled floor, so rubber feet or a heavier base matter. The second is the bowls: stainless inserts that lift out and are sold in the same diameter keep the stand useful when one bowl is dented.
